About icorsi.ch

icorsi.ch (hereinafter the Platform) is the eLearning platform of USI Università della Svizzera italiana, Scuola universitaria professionale della Svizzera italiana (SUPSI) and other Swiss institutions. iCorsi allows lecturers and students to manage, share and access teaching materials, to carry out anti-plagiarism checks using the Turnitin software, to manage communication between lecturers and students, and to create and conduct online examinations. The Platform is based on Moodle and its technical maintenance is provided by the technical team of USI's eLearning Lab (hereinafter We).

We respect your privacy

This policy applies to the Users of icorsi.ch and, according to the Federal Act on Data Protection and subsequent modifications, it informs you of how and for what purposes personal data is processed when You use the Platform. 

Which information we collect and for what purposes we use it

We process personal data to identify the User only for technical reasons in order to guarantee the fulfillment of the Platform's goals as hereinabove stated, including any necessary aspect related to achieve the goals, and to fulfill legal obligations and/or comply with orders from public authorities.

By using our Platform, we collect the following personal data:

  1. Necessary personal information:
    USI's students, academic and administrative staff: a personal account to use the Platform is automatically generated when a student subscribes to or when a person enters into an employment contract with USI, composed of first name, surname, institutional email address, institution and teaching/learning courses. The student's  account also includes the educational department and enrollment number.
    The User may decide about the visibility of their email address by selecting the option all, participants of the user's course, nobody.
    SUPSI's students, academic and administrative staff: the User creates a personal account by providing the required personal data such as first name, surname and institutional address. Students also provide their educational department and enrollment number. User's personal data included in the profile accounts of SUPSI's students and academic and administrative staff can also be accessed by the managers of the corresponding Department of SUPSI.
    The email address is also used to receive notifications from the Platform; You may opt out this option.

  2. Student's course attendances and grades are provided in her/his personal account, only accessible by the student and the course's teacher and assistant(s). These data related to SUPSI's students are also visible to SUPSI's managers.

  3. You have the possibility to provide additional information supplementing the needed data to customize your profile, such as your other names, nickname, phone number, city of residence, country, timezone, personal description, picture, social network's links and, if possible, You may change your institutional email address with another one.

  4. Educational material uploaded by the student and/or by the teacher on the Platform may include personal information.

  5. When You use the Platform, we automatically collect certain information about You. Collecting this information helps us solve technical, procedural and legal problems that may occur when using the Platform. This information includes usage data such as the User's activities on the pages of the Platform (the pages viewed, sequence, bounce rate, dates and time of access, and manner of such activities) and technical data such as service provider and internet protocol (IP) address used to access.

Third parties

You may use certain tools such as Wooclap and Turnitin that we provide through the Platform to better achieve the goals of the educational institutions. When used, these tools collect and process further information about you. Data gathered via Wooclap or Turnitin is used by us according to this Policy and used by Wooclap or Turnitin according to their respective policies.

We will not further share, sell or anyhow pass on User's personal data to third parties, except as otherwise provided in this Privacy notice. 

Cookies and tracking

To measure the interactivity of the Platform as indicated, we use Matomo analytics software which is managed by our technical team and hosted on our servers. We do not use advertising on our website.g

Retention of personal data

We keep your personal data for no longer than necessary for the purposes for which they were collected and processed. The length of time we retain personal data depends on the purposes for which we collect and use it and/or as required to comply with applicable laws and to establish, exercise, or defend our legal rights.

We keep your personal information strictly confidential and secure by adopting appropriate data collection, storage and processing practices and security measures to protect against unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure or destruction of your personal information stored on our databases.

Sensitive and private data exchange between the Platform and its users happen over a SSL secured communication channel and is encrypted and protected with digital signatures.

Deleting your personal data

As a subject of personal data you have certain rights in relation to your personal information. You may request that we provide you with a copy of your personal data or that we delete your personal data when in compliance with legal obligations and orders from public authorities, by contacting us via info@elearninglab.org.
